SeaChange is an offer of an inspired, inclusive future for our country.

It is a detailed, documented policy proposal and a call to action.

SeaChange was originally conceived in late 2017, pressure-tested through six months of research and policy analysis, published as a white paper July 1, 2018, and is now being re-released with the latest research—during the middle of a pandemic.

SeaChange is the result of a vision from Matthew O’Hayer, in partnership and collaboration with expert researcher Kimberly J Wilson DrPH and others.

Matt’s vision draws from more than 40 years as a serial entrepreneur (40 companies of all sizes), conscious capitalist and creative financier. Matt is the founder and CEO of Vital Farms, a certified B-Corp that sells pasture-raised eggs, humanely produced by over 200 family farms, to millions of consumers through partners like Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh, Kroger, Walmart and Target. Vital Farms has been noted widely for its unprecedented financing models which align health and prosperity outcomes for consumers, farmers and shareholders.

IN MATT’S OWN WORDS:

I’m always tumbling big problems and looking for ways to align systems and stakeholders for optimum outcomes. Sometimes that means simply seeing—and saying—what’s right in front of us.

In late 2017 while out for my morning run, I mentally tossed around various programs and policy ideas, all with merit, that were unable to function by themselves. This got me to wondering: “What would happen if we were to combine the best of these programs into a single economic model?” It’s in this vein that I share SeaChange.

As many of us are considering what future we can help bring forth, I humbly offer this practical—albeit bold—pressure-tested set of policies. My aim with this proposal is for broad adoption and iteration by change-makers across the spectrum.

As you, a member of academia, a think tank, government, business, community leadership or the media, consider how SeaChange may complement or challenge your own initiatives, I trust you will not hesitate to offer feedback, tough questions and opportunities to collaborate for the common goal of “an America as good as its promise”.
